Yes i think Roy played lead guitar on all the Sun era recordings, then after he left he switched to playing rhythm. I think it's a pity we didn't hear more of Roy's guitar playing, as he did have an unusual and distinctive style.
Also noticed that the liner notes on the back of the "Only The Lonely" EP say that Roy played the guitar on "Today's Teardrops", although to me this doesn't sound like Roy's playing...but who knows?

I will second that Jeanie A truly gifted man in every sense of the word He had so much heartache in his life and then to die so young............ Tragic
Roy was a very good guitar player and played most of the leads on his Sun recordings, and a few others, such as Ken Cook. He didn't play too much lead guitar after Sun and focused on his vocal delivery. When he started playing Ooby Dooby at concerts he used to do the guitar break in that and I think that was the first time since his Sun years that people realised he was good on the guitar as well.
GREAT singer, songwriter, guitar player...and great artist as well! As in DRAWING! He had more talent in the baby toe of his left foot than some people have in their whole body!

I dont think anyone would argue with that, and on top of that he was an even better singer. Mercy
Oh yes I would definatly agree.. There is nothing negative to say about Roy he was a gifted Musician....
Didn't he play guitar in all the Sun Records recordings in the 50s? That is what I read somewhere. Was he at Sun Records for a couple of years only?
