Anyone own the Bear Family 7 CD box Orbison?
I'm wondering if this is worth buying or would I be better off to try and collect the material through lose cd's?
The price is pretty expensive. If I order it through their site it would cost me 158 Euro's (plus probably postage, although I'm not sure). On Amazon it goes for around 200 dollars + postage.
I'm especially interested in not only the music (of course) but the book, since I'm a new fan and have very little of Roy and am especially interested in any photos, released and unreleased, and they claim the book with this set has many unreleased photos of Roy and of course the bio that is in the book.
One could say I'm hungry for Roy Material, since I have so very little still. LOL
I'm either contemplating asking it for my birthday or dish out the money from my vacation money. Not going on vacation anyway. *grin*

Hi! I have it and I enjoy listening to it a lot. It has a lot of material that can't be found else where. You can probably buy it cheaper on Ebay. Good Luck!
Thanks for your reply.
How is the book, is it good? Many photos?
On Amazon they have a pic of it, open at a beautiful photo of Roy with normal glasses, it does look beautiful.
yes, the book is beautiful! lots of pictures. My favorite set of cds is the 5 Edsel record label set. It is all 11 MGM albums he recorded from 1965-1973. The 5 packages are as follows
1. There is only one R.O. & The Orbison Way
2. The Classic R.O. & Cry Softly Lonely One
3. R.O. Sings Don Gibson & Hank Williams The R.O. Way
4. R.O.s Many Moods & Big O
5. R.O. Sings & Memphis & Milestones
They can be found on Amazon and Ebay.
They do not include the singles, but you can get all of them on 1 cd from the RO store.
Hope this helps you. I never tire of listening to his music!
Janey
Thanks for the info. I did see those cd's, at least two of them, in my fave online store so most probably will pick those up too in the near future.
I'm not sure if I have ever seen this one. I will have to check it out on Amazon. Would really love to have the book. Thanks for the info.
Don't know if we're allowed to post links here. But here it is on the official Bear Family site.
Orbison 7 CD Box.
It looks like a wonderful CD box. It contains every recording of Roy from 1955 to 1965, including alternate versions of songs. (according to the site)
And the coca cola advertisements etc.
It is expensive though as I said, but for that you get close to 200 songs, from what I counted on the site of Bear Family there are 192 tracks in total in this cd box. Of course some of those will be duplicates as they are alternative versions. But still a beautiful asset I think to any Roy Orbison collection which is why I'm thinking of buying it. Normally I could not afford such a box, but as I said, I got my vacation money this month and since I'm not going on any vacation anyway this might be a nice thing to spend my money on.

if you find the Bear set on Ebay, ask the seller if they will take Best Offers. They usually will because this is not a big selling item. I don't know if Amazon does that or not.
RoyOrbisonfan,
The Bear Family box you are considering is really worth every penny. The sound quality is great. The 104-page hardcover book is well researched and has a host of terrific photos and details, a must in any comprehensive Roy collection. A pity Bear Family never made a follow-up covering the MGM years ...
Well worth the money.......super book, one can not have too much Roy
Thanks inDreams and Blgmama.
Maybe an idea for Roy fans to mail Bear Family records and ask for a follow up covering the MGM years. I bet there is still plenty of material to cover. Just tell them to get better cover when they make one. *grin*
I did check their website and they are selling some great cd's there, but unfortunately I won't be able to order them since they only accept creditcard and no paypal.
Well I ordered the box set from bol.com. In about 2 to 3 weeks it should arrive.
