Roy's orginal Monument albums remastered.
Hi,
I'm sure some of you already own these, but for those of you who don't, the 2006 remastered and expanded versions of Roy's three original Monument albums are value for money.
Because I have the albums and the individual songs over and over and in so many formats, I had actually decided not to invest in the series. But in the HMV shop in Oxford Street, London last week I suddenly found myself holding In Dreams and Crying and I thought why not, I might be pleasantly surprised. And I was. The remaster works excellently and Roy's voice stands out crystal clear as do the instruments. When I was listening to Candy Man and that other "voice" in the song, Charlie McCoy's harmonica I remembered an occasion when I had a chance to speak to Charlie about his part in Candy Man, and he reminded me that he also played on other songs, like Blue Bayou where the harmonica is much more delicate, wistful to suit the idea of the song.
Like some of you I have been listening to and collecting Roy since the early sixties, and I always welcome opportunities to "rediscover" Roy's music, ways that will allow you to have a fresh look. This series is one such opportunity. The Bear Family box that we discussed in a different topic is another. Part of the freshness of that one is that you get Roy's Monument recordings in chronological order, so you can trace his next "move" after, say, Crying.

Hi! Thanks for that info. I have started to buy those cds several times, but haven't. I will definitely get them now. Always looking for something new or different on Roy! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE HIS SINGING! Janey
I just looked and I do have LONELY AND BLUE so I'll just have to find IN DREAMS AND CRYING.
Roy never sounded better on vinyl. And vinyl is coming back.
Rockinbones,
I agree with you about vinyl, though the cd medium has been much improved over the years. And of course I have all of Roy's album on vinyl

Like you Jesper i have these original albums plus all the other albums and cds a lot of which have the same songs on so i didnt think i would bother with the remastered ones

Reminds me of when I was a fan of The Monkees..I bought all the re-issues of their vinyl records at Rhino Records...cost me an arm and a leg especially since internet stores weren't common back then. So I have all the re-issue of their albums on vinyl...might have to see if someday I can get Roy's albums on vinyl too although right now I'm firstly concentrating on getting CD's since I don't even own a record player at the moment. LOL
Just watched The Black And Night AGAIN i will never get sick of watching this and every time i do watch i always notice something that i hadnt noticed before ......LOVE IT
